Can you make a money with Hub Pages?

Many people dream of making a living by writing and many even make a start on writing a book, but, if you are anything like me, what always puts you off the length of time it takes to write a book, before you even a single penny in your bank account and, even then, there is no guarantee that you will make any real money for your efforts. One of the ways that you can make writing faster, though, is by writing for revenue sharing sites like Hub Pages, a site that I wished I had found years ago.

What are Hub Pages?

Hub Pages are a revenue share writing site. That means that you can write and publish articles and you will get paid a share of the advertising revenue that Hub Pages make from impressions of your work. You can also place your own Amazon and ebay advertisements in your articles and be paid a commission from those.

You can write on any topic that you like, so long as it is not offensive or pornographic, and you can promote your articles, and your sub domain,  via Twitter, social bookmarking sites or though other SEO methods.

There are some rules that you have to follow on Hub Pages, but they are, in the main, sensible and reasonable. You can’t, for example, write an article, or Hub as it is known, that is overly promotional and filled with affiliate links. A hub should be informative and, or, entertaining, not just a great big sales pitch for your product or website.

Also, to get a ‘featured’ hub, which means that the work will be promoted to search engines and promoted on the site itself, Hubs must be of a certain standard. SO, while the site does not insist on a certain article length or standard of grammar, you will be penalised for very poor work.

Can you earn a living with Hub Pages?

There are people who write for Hub Pages, or Hubbers, as they are known, who make well over $1,500 a month from their articles, but that takes some effort to get to. What is great about Hub Pages though, is that is a real opportunity to earn some passive or residual income. If you write a good article that attracts regular hits, then you make money from that article, forever, by nothing more, once the article has been published.

There is no real formula to tell how much money you will make working on Hub Pages, because there are so many variables. If you do your keyword research though, you can make $50 per month from one Hub. I know, because I have done it! To be fair though, I also have hubs that have performed far worse than that.

Is there a Hub Pages Referal Scheme?

Yes, you can also earn money from Hub Pages, by referring new people to the site. The system uses a referral tracker that you can place in links or in banners for your own site and you will earn 10% of whatever a Hub Pages writer, that you referred, make themselves, for life.

You can also earn between 9% and 12% of revenue that a person generates by simply reading hubs. In other words, not a Hub Pages writer, but just a passing referral of someone who visits just to read an article.

Hub Pages are a long term recurring revenue opportunity

Writing Hubs is not quick and loading your text, images and formatting a hub can be quite time consuming. The money that you will make from a single hub, is not always that good either, so, Hub Pages is certainly not a quick way of earning money.

It is good though, to include in your plan for long term, recurring income. If you write regularly and write informative, quality articles, you will slowly build up a readership and a long term source of recurring revenue. You can also come and go with Hub Pages; writing when you have time and not, when you don’t.

If you are looking to develop a real and sustainable, income online, then sites like Hub Pages, are well worth the investment of your time, for the long term, but it won't pay your bills tomorrow.
